The lowering of the Görarp Dam is currently underway in River Råån. The lowering is the first stage before the dam foundation is dismantled so that all fish species can pass through the dam. The action is one of the first to be implemented in Improve Aquatic LIFE.

Görarp Dam is located 3.5 kilometers upstream of the mouth of the Sound and blocks the migration of weak-swimming species such as sea lamprey, eel and greenling. Highly migratory species such as trout can pass thanks to an old fish ladder. In addition to improving fish migration in the watercourse, the measure will also restore the reclaimed stretch of stream. Restoring the stream channel will benefit species that thrive in flowing water. The measure is expected to have extensive positive effects on the ecosystem and biodiversity both in River Råån but also in the Sound. The measure is expected to be completed in 2025.
