In the waters outside Landskrona, large amounts of stones have historically been picked up from the seabed through so-called stone fishing. Now the Improve Aquatic LIFE project aims to recreate a Stone reef in the sea outside Landskrona.
When the City of Landskrona decided to support the stone reef project, it also donated approximately 500 m3 of natural stone to the project. In addition, the City of Landskrona has provided storage space for stone donated to the project from the Barsebäck estate. Approximately 900-1000 m3 of natural stone have been collected from the estate and is now temporarily stord in Landskrona, awaiting placement in the öresund in about a years time.
The City of Landskrona is supporting the project, which provides a fantastic opportunity to recreate valuable marine habitats.
The stones are planned to be placed in the sea during the autumn of 2026. Until then, preparatory work is underway to ensure that both placement and monitoring work run as smoothly as possible. More updates on the stone reef project off Landskrona, as well as the related stone reef project in Båstad municipality in Skälderviken, will come along the way.
“The City of Landskrona is supporting the project, which provides a fantastic opportunity to recreate valuable marine habitats. Among other things, we are contributing large quantities of natural stone blocks and storage space.” // Adam Bahr, Municipal Ecologist Landskrona stad.
