The dam and the migration barrier at Okome Mill in Stockån, a tributary of Högvadsån, is about to disappear. The first step of the project is to lower the dam, which is currently underway. The dam will then be dismantled so that fish can migrate past.
There is a lot going on in Improve Aquatic LIFE right now! Both the lowering of the Görarp dam in River Råån and the Okome mill in Stockaån are currently in full swing. The aim of the project at Okome Mill is to create free migration routes for salmon and other fish species in the Stockån river, which will benefit the biodiversity of the area.
Fine spawning grounds for salmon and other species that have previously been impounded have already begun to emerge
The dismantling of the dam also enables the red-listed river pearl mussel to establish itself upstream of the mill, as its larvae depend on salmonids for their reproduction. Fine spawning grounds for salmon and others that were previously impounded have already begun to emerge since parts of the dam were lowered.
