The permit process to remove and replace the Torp power station with a new dam to allow free fish migration is ongoing. At the same time, Munkedal municipality has initiated its own restoration measures along the river.

For several years, planning and permit applications have been ongoing to restore the River Örekilsälven, which was previously cleared of stones to facilitate timber floatingg. Goverment funding and funds from the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation has been granted to the municipality of Munkedal, which is the lead partner for the project.

It is now very encouraging that the actual restoration work has started this week.

The work will help to recreate a more natural environment with better living conditions for fish and other aquatic organisms. More information is available on the municipality’s website: River Örekilsälven’s channel restored for a more viable aquatic environment – Munkedal Municipality
