A wetland covering approximately 40 hectares has been restored at Tr\u00e4sken by filling in ditches and restoring the area\u2019s natural water levels. The goal is to create a valuable habitat for species such as pike, birds, amphibians, and insects, among others.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The area was drained as early as the 18th century to create more arable land, but in recent years it has become increasingly difficult to use. Now, the water is once again able to spread out across the landscape. The area\u2019s hydrology has been restored by recreating a natural-like stream channel, filling in over 700 meters of ditches, and creating small fish-free ponds and an island for birdlife.<\/p>\n

Tr\u00e4sken is thus transforming from a drained and overgrown area into a living wetland of great importance to nature.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The restoration is expected to create better conditions for pike spawning and growth, while the wetland contributes to more consistent water flows, increased biodiversity, and reduced climate impact.<\/p>\n

When completely filled with water, the wetland is estimated to hold about 320,000 cubic meters of water, becoming a unique natural environment in the area. Tr\u00e4sken will thus transform from a drained and overgrown area into a living wetland of great importance to nature.<\/p>\n
